Srebrenica Statue Vandalized

A statue honoring Srebrenica genocide victims was vandalized in Sarajevo. According to the Sarajevo police, the statue was broken by a 22-year-old Croatian national, who was detained after the incident.

Bosniak artist Mensud Keco sculptured the statue in 2015, which was erected in a park in central Sarajevo in memory of Srebrenica war victims. The statue depicts a father calling for his son, both killed at Srebrenica in 1995. The father was filmed by a TV crew after being caught trying to escape the fallen UN-declared “safe area”. He was told to call for his son, hiding in the woods, to surrender. Their bodies were found years later in a mass grave.
