Sarajevo Film Festival said the president of the Competition Program – Feature Film jury this year will be Michel Franco, a Mexico’s high-profile and independent young filmmaker. The festival will run 11-18 August. Franco, born in Mexico City in 1979, is critically acclaimed for the films he wrote, directed and produced. His “After Lucia” won the Best Film Award at Certain Regard, 2012 Cannes Film Festival. “Chronic” is the winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Franco produced “600 Miles”, directed by Gabriel Ripstein. The film won the Best First Feature Award at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival. The filmmaker runs Lucía Films, which is developing several feature films and TV projects.
The SFF audiences will have an opportunity to see his most recent work this year, “April’s Daughters”, which was included in the Official Selection of Cannes Film Festival 2017 and won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize.
