Turkey’s national television started filming a mini series about Alija Izetbegović, the founder of Bosnia’s main Bosniak political party, the SDA, and the president of Bosnia during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. The filming at Bosnian locations started this month. The locations include major cities like Sarajevo and Mostar, as well as historical towns Blagaj and Počitelj.
The six-installment series, called “Alija”, will span decades, from 1944 and Izetbegović’s youth to the year of his death, 2003. Two actors will play the main character – Burak Poyraz as young Izetbegović and Yurdaer Okur as older. His wife Halida will be played by Görkem Yeltan. Son Bakir Izetbegović will be portrayed by Berke Üzrek, his wife Sebija Izetbegović will be played by Fatoş Kabasakal and Alija Izetbegović’s daughter Sabina will be played by Dilşad Çelebi.
The series’ director is Ahmed Imamović, a Bosnian filmmaker known for “Go West” and “Ten Minutes”.
