Sarajevo’s old town municipality mayor said the business owners in the old town were told to take down the neon signs and electronic displays that weren’t approved by the authorities. The municipal and Federation entity inspectors will start removing the signs and displays later this month.
“We decided to (take down the unapproved electricity-powered signs) in a bid to protect the authenticity of Baščaršija (old town district), because that is no place for such advertising,” said mayor Ibrahim Hažibajrić.
“We can’t allow the core of the old town being turned into an eyesore.”
The business owners were told that they will be charged for the removal of unapproved signs if they don’t remove them themselves.
