The world football federation rejected an appeal lodged by the Bosnian football federation and upheld the sanctions imposed by its disciplinary committee following the incidents in the 2018 world cup qualifier between Bosnia and Greece, played on 9 June 2017.
The FIFA appeal committee ruled that a ban on playing the next qualifier of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia in the Bilino Polje stadium in Zenica, where the incidents occurred, in addition to a CHF 30,000 fine, was appropriate given the circumstances of the case and the disciplinary record of the Bosnian football federation.
Bosnia is supposed to play the next qualifier with Belgium. The match will likely be played in the Grbavica stadium in Sarajevo.
On Thursday, the Bosnian team lost an away qualifier to Cyprus and had its chances of competing in the world cup next year reduced significantly.
