US, EU Envoys Discuss Election Law, Reforms with Presidency Chairman

Ambassador of the United States to Bosnia Maureen Cormack and European Union’s Special Representative and Head of EU Delegation Lars-Gunnar Wigemark met with chairman of the Bosnian Presidency Dragan Čović to discuss reforms, regaining momentum on the EU path, and improving the rule of law, said the EU Delegation.

Discussing the 2018 elections, the diplomats emphasized the responsibility of Bosnian politicians to make sure elections take place smoothly and institutions are formed in a timely manner. Presidency chairman Čović said he was committed to discussing potential amendments to the election law in a spirit of dialogue and consensus.

Ambassador Cormack and EUSR Wigemark said that any initiative to amend the election law must respect court decisions and the rule of law, and move Bosnia closer to EU standards.

The United States and the European Union support constructive efforts to address differences and make progress on the EU path, said the EU Delegation.
