Rescuers Cope with Weather as Search for Missing Man Enters Day Five

The rescue effort continues following the death of one man and disappearance of another in Sarajevo’s Miljacka river last Wednesday.

Some 150 rescuers of the Federation entity’s civil protection and 100 volunteers continue the search for one of the two men who fell into the Miljacka river in Sarajevo five days ago. The body of the other man was found in the Bosna river on Thursday. The rescuers are backed by the local units of civil protection and police in central Bosnia towns on the Bosna river.

The area currently searched is nearly 110 kilometers long, stretching from the town of Kakanj to the town of Doboj in Republika Srpska entity.

Severe weather hampers the rescue effort as the rivers are swollen due to days of heavy precipitation. Boats are not of much use, and neither are the search dogs, which perform poorly in wet weather. Rescuers were also warned about the remaining minefields near the town of Maglaj.
