Bosnia’s service for foreigners’ affairs launched an online tool for registration of foreign nationals, indented for individuals and businesses that provide accommodation to foreign nationals in the country.
The e-stranac tool was designed to improve the registration process for the service for foreigners’ affairs, a press conference in Sarajevo was told. The tool was developed as part of the project “Support to Efficient Management of Migration and Borders in BiH”, supported by the government of Switzerland and implemented in cooperation with the Bosnian security ministry, the service for foreigners’ affairs and the center for anti-crime policy research.
Assistant security minister Mladen Mrkaja said the tool is important in terms of raising the level of security in the country. Director of Cooperation Office at the Swiss Embassy Barbara Datwyler Scheuer said the project is relevant as Bosnia experiences a rise in the migration figures and the number of tourists visiting the country has climbed in the last few years. She said that an agreement on the project worth 1.6 million KM was signed a year ago.
“According to the state statistics agency, 1,307,319 people visited Bosnia last year, and a significant number of them were unregistered. As of today, the system will be available to all foreigners, the hosts and the tourism industry,” she said.
